M.A. 1968, Adelphi University Ph.D. 1995, Dr. David Bernstein Dissertation: Two hundred Years of Family Farm Households -1700-1900: The Archaeology of the Terry-Mulford Site, Orient, NY. Placement or Plans: Teacher, Three Village School District. Frank Turano is a native Long Islander currently living in Setauket. He is the father of three grown boys and a college age daughter. He spent 34 years in Public Education, 28 years of those at Ward Melville High School. He has his B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from St. John's University, an M.S. in Marine Science from Adelphi University, an M.A. in Anthropology and Ph.D. in Historical Archaeology from Stony Brook University. His teaching has been recognized by Three Village Schools, the Suffolk County Science Teachers Association, the National Biology Teachers Association and Stony Brook University. While at Ward Melville, he developed an Environmental Biology Program that replaced Regents Biology for all 10th grade students for more than 10 years. He has been teaching Long Island Environmental History at Stony Brook since the mid-1970s. In 1999, he collaborated in the production of the documentary film "Baymen." He was the writer/researcher for the "Telly" award winning film "A Farm Picture" which traced the development of farming on Long Island. Currently, he is finishing a documentary film about Fire Island. Shooting is expected to be finished this fall and the film completed in 2010.
