A counter is way to register the number of visitors to a page. When you highlight this in choose new elements and click on Add or Select a counter element from your current elements, a popup screen will come up saying, "Adding New Counter".

The top selection is where you can add text that will displayed to the person visiting the page on the web. A default text is already there for your convience. The next selection is "Number Style" This allows you to set the number displayed as same as surrounding text or set a graphical display. In setting a graphical display you can select from a drop down list or choose to view all the different types. If you select "View All" a screen will popup with a sample of the different counter formats you can select from. Choose the one you want by selecting (clicking) in the radio box next to the style you want. Go to the bottom of list and select "Use Selected Style" or cancel by clicking close window. The next option is the text font. Here you can select which font to use for your counter text. Next is the text size. Here you can specify the size of the text that appears on each side of counter. Next is text color. This will set the text color and the color of the counter except when counter has a specific color already set for it. This is true for certain counter styles, that display a rainbow effect or certain color on specific background. The Horizontal Alignment default is set to center. You can change it here. This determins the page placement. The "folowed by" is the determining of how the next element follow. I.E., whether there is line between them (paragraph) or it next element follows on next line or there is no break of any kind. The custom description is where you can add a custom description to to element, in this case the counter. This is usefull if you have more than one, because in going to specific elements to edit you can see exactly which one to work on.
