Is Carbon Star a corporate chain or locally owned?
We are locally owned and operated. We are not a corporation but we are a quickly growing small chain of stores in the South-Midwest Region that‘s dedicated to keeping the skate/BMX scene alive!
We have stores in Missouri and Arkansas and are planning on further expansion. Each store is locally run by area skateboard and BMX devotees so you can feel confident that your concerns will be addressed by people who love Skating/Riding as much as you do!
We’ve worked hard to bring you the best selection and price that any skate shop in this region has ever offered!
Our stores are clean and pleasant for the entire family so you can enjoy a positive shopping experience. Each store is conveniently located in prime retail districts for your comfort, safety and convenience.

What are Carbon Star’s open hours?
We’re open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 9:00pm with extended hours during the Holidays. Holiday hours may vary from location to location. All locations are closed on Sundays.
When will a Carbon Star open in my town?
We are currently researching the demographics in several towns so we can grow into areas where there is enough demand to support a shop. We try to avoid coming into towns that already have solid core shops. The best thing you can do is to support local skate shops in your area.
While there are many places to mail-order and buy product online, you are actually hurting the scene in your area by not keeping business local. Ultimately, it is up to YOU to help build the scene in your towns, but it is your local shops that bring the scene to you and keep it real with events and sponsorship opportunities. Local shops offer a more personal touch to your shopping experience while mail/internet-orders often end with disappointment.
Your local shop just may be your foot in the door to becoming a pro someday!
Where does Carbon Star get their product from?
We order our product directly from the manufacturer. We do not use distributors/middlemen like many smaller shops which gives us the ability to keep our prices low and get rare, hard-to-find products that you can’t get anywhere else! (No, we are not affiliated with CCS!)
How can I be notified of special sales promotions, demos, contests and other special events?
When you become a customer at Carbon Star, we enter you into our database so we can notify you of anything special we’ve got going on. If you have not shopped at any of our stores before, you can still be notified of events by contacting one of our stores and asking to be added to our mailing list. We do not abuse or share your information with any one else!

Team & Sponsorship Questions:
How do I get sponsored by Carbon Star?
We already have a pretty solid team but we’re always thrilled to meet new talent. You can drop your “sponsor me” footage off at any location and we’d be happy to take a look at it. Please do not leave your only copy as we do not return submissions. Be sure to provide contact information with your footage so we can contact you. We prefer CD or DVD format (something we can play on a computer) or you can also send us a link to your online footage.
If you’re not technology savvy you can also take the opportunity to show your stuff at one of our locally sponsored events. We take a serious look at local talent when we sponsor contests and award handsome prizes to contest winners!
From time to time, are able to hookup special talent to be put on flow with a major company! Keep practicing and be sure to attend every special event you can!
What tricks do I need to do to get sponsored by Carbon Star?
We don’t look at tricks, per se- Some key elements to becoming a team rider are: consistency, personal style and how well rounded you are. We like to see a healthy variety of tricks but most importantly we look at your attitude. Confidence and courtesy are your keys to opening doors!
We’ve met a lot of very talented individuals throughout the years, but one thing that turns us off is arrogance and rudeness. Being sponsored is not a social position that sets you above others or a license to blow your own horn; it is a channel to help you improve your talents while mentoring the beginners who look up to you.
It doesn’t matter how good you are, If you’re serious about getting sponsored a little humility goes a long way.
I heard “so & so” is on the Carbon Star skate team, is that true?
If they are not featured on our “Skate Team” web page then they are not sponsored by Carbon Star. New riders are normally added within 2-6 weeks.
Sales/Return Policy Questions:
Can I purchase products from Carbon Star online?
We do not currently offer online shopping. You may call-in an order via telephone if you are unable to visit one of our locations. All orders shipped to your residence will have a shipping and handling fee applied. Orders picked up at any carbon Star location have no shipping fees.
What is Carbon Star’s return policy?
Returns/Exchanges are only accepted with a valid Carbon Star sales receipt- no exceptions. Returns/Exchanges are only accepted within 30 days of purchase. All sales on clearance items are final. Returns/Exchanges will not be accepted if the item is not in it’s original packing and/or tags are not attached. No cash refunds on credit card purchases. Apparel Returns/Exchanges can not be accepted if the item reeks of smoke.
What payment options are accepted at Carbon Star locations?
Cash is always best of course. We also accept all major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. We happily accept mall gift cards. And yes, we’re one of the few shops that still accept local checks. For your protection, please note that require ID for all checks.
Does Carbon Star offer layaway?
Yes! We require a fifty percent deposit on all layaways. You have 30 days to complete the layaway before we restock. We provide the customer with a courtesy call about a week before layaway expires.
Does Carbon Star make special orders?
Yes! We can get virtually anything you want! Just ask. Most special orders arrive within 5-7 business days as long as the manufacturer has it in stock. Some special orders can take longer if the item is back-ordered. We require at least a fifty percent deposit on all special orders. They are handled much like a layaway. We give the customer a courtesy call when the product arrives and then allow up to 30 days for payoff and pickup. After 30 days of inactivity the item is restocked. For a small shipping and handling fee we can have your item shipped to your residence.
Can I have a discount? Can I have something for free?

Why doesn’t Carbon Star give free grip tape with the purchase of a deck?
Sometimes we run specials that offer free grip with a deck, but we can’t give it away for free all the time or we couldn’t pay the rent. Grip tape costs us a lot of money to keep in stock so we have to charge something. We are confident that you’ll find our prices are very competitive and our product is always of the highest quality. We strive to bring you excellent service, selection and convenience. Even after you’ve purchased your deck and grip, you’ll find that you got a great deal at Carbon Star! Though we must charge for the grip tape itself, we are always happy to put it on your board FREE of charge! Assembly is always FREE!
Do products come with any kind of warranty?
Most products come with a manufacture’s warranty that covers factory defects. Most shops will give you the cold shoulder when you present a defected product and they are very reluctant to replace defected product. Not us! We’re so devoted to your satisfaction that we’ll cover all product purchased from our store against manufacture’s defects. Be sure to bring your valid receipt as we only cover product for up to 30 days. We will either repair or replace defected products, but you MUST have a receipt! No cash refunds on defected product.
I just bought a deck yesterday and it already snapped, will Carbon Star replace it?
Board breakage is not covered by manufacture’s warranty. Many types of board abuse or incorrect use result in board breakage that have little or nothing to do with the product quality itself. Defects covered by manufacture’s warranty include delaminated and warped boards. All boards eventually break but the life of your board is directly impacted by your technique and use.

Can I get an application and/or interview?
Our applications are available only on our website. Click on JOBS for more info. Sorry, Due to the number of people who ask for applications each day, we do not keep applications at our store locations. We feel that if a person takes the time to go to our website, print the application and bring it back to the store that it weeds out those who are not serious about career opportunities at Carbon Star. It just goes to show who’s willing to go the extra mile.
The staff at Carbon Star are all devoted to their jobs and thus we rarely have openings. Due to the enormous amount of interest there is for opportunities to work at Carbon Star, please do not press us for an interview or a job if we are not hiring. We will always accept applications but only give interviews to those who meet our requirements if we have current openings. Honesty, people skills, product knowledge, and experience in the field is a MUST.
A few helpful tips: Those who have been hired started by being good customers. They got to know the staff, gained their trust and became loyal to the Company long before they were hired. You’re more likely to get a job if you are not a stranger. Become our customer, become our friend, only then can you become a part of the Carbon Star team.
