Pet Adoptions Go High TechBy: Courier Staff WriterPet adoptions have gone hi-tech with a new program of computer kiosks which are the first of their kind and currently on display at 25 Los Angeles area pet adoption centers. Until now, individuals wanting to adopt a pet had to travel from shelter to shelter to see what was available. With the Pet Ark kiosks, potential pet owners will be able to survey the combined inventory of all area shelters from one location and make their selection on the spot, saving invaluable time and the life of a pet at the same time. The colorful kiosks are designed to help the public quickly and conveniently adopt unwanted and abandoned animals with the touch of a button, and this innovative teaming of technology, compassion and creativity to save lives. The LA area is home to one of the highest euthanization rates in the country with an average of over 240 healthy pets euthanized each day, so this is a great invention for those who love and care about pets. Beverly Hills entrepreneur-philanthropist Robert H. Lorsch, Robert F. Moran, president/COO, PETsMART, Inc., and Barbara Fitzgerald, president of PETsMART Charities, and local Pet adoption agency representatives presided at the unveiling of the Animal Rescue Kiosk (ARK) at a private reception at the LorschLand estate. This launching of the Pet Adoption Kiosk program is a collaboration between PETsMART Charities, Pet-Ark, a pet-focused technology company, which developed the kiosks, and 25 leading Los Angeles area shelters as charter participants. Each kiosk will ultimately be sponsored by individuals and/or companies and the general public will be able to miraculously locate adoptable pets at all 25 locations by viewing all available adoptees from a single kiosk site, saving lots of time and money—thus giving a wonderful pet a new home quickly!
