Emergency Response Volunteers NeededBy Courier Staff Writer
It’s time to sign up for the Community Emergency Response Training class (CERT) offered by Beverly Hills beginning this Tuesday, May 3 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. through the end of the month.
This free 20-hour class is open to residents of The City. Participants learn how to put out small fires, shut off utilities, extricate victims trapped under debris, perform basic first aid and basically care for themselves and their families and neighbors when emergency personnel are overwhelmed and unable to respond for a while.
Deputy Fire Chief Bob Cavaglieri states: “We have already trained over 250 citizens in emergency response procedures. This is a great opportunity for residents to become part of the solution to a disaster. We realize that 20 hours is a huge time commitment for most people, but CERT graduates have commented time and time again that it was well worth the time spent. As the saying goes, ‘the future belongs to those who prepare.’”
Space still remains for the upcoming class, but since the first class session begins Tuesday, interested residents need to call immediately for an application form. For more information, and to register, call Sonia Berman at 310- 281-2754.
