Once Upon a time, the Great South Bay supplied 70 percent of clams consumed in the United States; these days only 6 percent are taken from Long Island. Naturally, these diminishing figures have had a trendous impact on the people who make their living on the water. Their story is told in "Baymen," a documentary by Glenn Gebhard and Mario Congreve. Featuring 10 current bay fisherman on the job, clamming, crabbing, eeling and talking about their lives and some expert observers.
The hour formatted documentary records the ups and, lately, the treatening downs of the industry.
